Judge Simon Retires, Passes Gavel to Judge Stroud

Magistrate Judge Amy Simon took the county-offered early retirement package effective Aug. 31. She delayed her exit to ensure there would be an orderly transfer of her duties as judge and director of the DeKalb Mental Health/Diversion Treatment Court under a federal SAMHSA grant.

Chief Magistrate Judge Berryl A. Anderson has announced that Judge Simon has passed the gavel to Judge Rhathelia Stroud, who assumed her duties as the new director of the Diversion Treatment Court Program on Sept. 1. Both Judge Simon and Judge Stroud have worked tirelessly over the last several months to ensure a seamless transition.

Judge Stroud’s experience as deputy general counsel for the Georgia Department of Community Health, 11 years as a part-time judge and 16 years of legal experience, have made her uniquely qualified for this position.

Please join us in congratulating both judges as they begin new chapters in their careers.
