From the DBA President: Celebrating Summer!

crumrineby Rebecca Crumrine Rieder
President, DeKalb Bar Association

Welcome to summer, and celebrating the end of the year! I hope everyone – all members of the bench and the bar – will join us June 26, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the Solarium in Oakhurst Village for our year-end barbecue. This is a wonderful way to gather, acknowledge and thank all our members. And, this event ushers in Scott Bonder as the next president of the DeKalb Bar Association. I am excited about Scott’s upcoming leadership.

A special thanks to Steve Apolinsky, the honorable Courtney Johnson, and Diana Kovach who have fulfilled their terms as members of the board. Elections for the open board positions will be at the June 19 luncheon scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the historic Old Courthouse on the square. If you are interested in running for a position, please contact Cindy Harris at execdir@dekalbbar.org no later than June 15.

Congratulations to the DeKalb Bar Association, recipient of the State Bar of Georgia awards for best newsletter and best website. Cindy Harris and newsletter editor Jessica Reece Fagan work tirelessly throughout the year to produce this excellent work. The awards were presented at the State Bar Annual Meeting in Amelia Island where Ms. Fagan accepted the awards on behalf of DBA.

With the end of May also comes the end of my term as president. It has been an honor and pleasure to serve as the DeKalb Bar Association president. As Paula Frederick remarked at our September 2013 luncheon, active local bar associations are an anomaly – we set a unique standard due to you and your involvement. Thank you!

I look forward to continued involvement with the DBA and serving as the DeKalb Foundation president in the upcoming year. Cheers to Scott and the 2014-2015 DBA year!
