Young Lawyers Division Offers Student Mentorship and Intern Referral Programs

DeKalb Bar Association Young Lawyers DivisionThe Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the DeKalb Bar is expanding this year, offering student mentoring and intern referral programs. We have a new president, Dar’shun Kendrick, and a new president-elect, Diana Kovach. Jessica Rock is our immediate past president. YLD has added structure to its board by including student board members: Lisa Bobb from GSU, Casey Jackson from Emory, and Kristen Zisa from John Marshall.

Student board members are responsible for recruiting and communicating with student members and assisting with YLD events throughout the year. Student membership is $45 annually and students are expected to contribute 10 hours of service to the bar (assisting with law day, setting up for an event, for example). Students will pay $20 per luncheon and $10 per social to attend.

Student Mentorship Program

Students will be paired up with a mentor in their designated practice areas. The mentor will attend at least one luncheon and one social with the student to introduce them to other members. There will be a special social in November honoring our mentors and introducing our student members to the bar.

Intern Referral System

Students will also be featured on an intern referral system available to all members of the bar. Members can request a paid or unpaid law student intern for the summer, the school year, or even a few hours of research.

If you are interested in serving as a mentor or you would like to request an intern, please email our student board members at dekalbbarstudents@gmail.com.
