Trial Lawyers Focus on Safety

The Trial Lawyers Section of DBA recently teamed up with SafeKids of DeKalb County on two events to make our community safer for children. On Sept. 11, TLS members Rick Alembik, Justin Hayes, Adrienne Hobbs, Chad Walker and Doug Aholt traveled to Clarkston City Hall to participate in the Clarkston Collaborative Bicycle Rodeo.

In addition to providing volunteers to conduct the rodeo, the TLS also provided financial support. The rodeo focused on educating children and parents on helmet safety and the rules of the road. Helmets were also provided to those kids who did not have a helmet or had one that did not provide sufficient protection. Rick Alembik provided his expertise on helmet safety and the other TLS members instructed the kids on bike safety and the rules of the road.

The week of Sept. 19 was Child Passenger Safety Week, and our TLS participated in the National Seat Check on Sept. 25 at the Nalley Auto Group in Decatur. The seat check was organized by SafeKids of DeKalb County and the TLS was a financial sponsor. Certified safety technicians were on hand to instruct parents on how to properly install child seats in their vehicles. TLS member Doug Aholt worked with the technicians to check for safety recalls for each child seat brought to the event. If a child seat was the subject of a recall, the recalled seat was destroyed and a new seat was provided at no charge to the parent.

The TLS is also a sponsor for the Atlanta Walk Like MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) event to be held at Stone Mountain Park on Oct. 2. The event marks the sixth annual walk in support of MADD’s lifesaving mission to eliminate drunk driving.
