Volunteer opportunities

Dear DBA Members:
A wonderful new program has recently been instituted at the DeKalb County Police Department: Police Athletic League Plus (PAL Plus). Public Safety Director William Miller briefly spoke about the program at the January Luncheon, but the article below will provide more detailed information. As this is a very new program in DeKalb County, a multitude of volunteer and sponsorship opportunities are available. The DBA is also considering partnering with PAL in its mission to promote positive growth for the youth of this county while also preventing crime. Please read below for more information. PAL Plus Mission

DeKalb Police Athletic League Plus, Inc., (PALP) is a nonprofit, charitable organization whose main focus is to prevent crime by promoting positive attitudes for the growth and development of children and young adults. DeKalb police officers and community volunteers work hand in hand as mentors, coaches and instructors in programs that promote educational enrichment, mentoring, life skills and recreational athletics.

“Filling playgrounds and classrooms, not prisons” is an accurate description of PALP’s goal. We strive to ensure that youth in our programs develop physically, psychologically, and socially. And we truly believe that this will help turn the tide of crime and enhance the image of law enforcement in the community. Because of our commitment, we must turn to as many resources as possible in this critical phase. Please consider joining us in this endeavor to better our community and the future of our children.

Your involvement in the PALP Program will help prepare our youth to become responsible, independent, contributing members of society.
