Mock Trial Volunteers Needed for Feb. 12 Competition

It’s that time again – time for the YLD-sponsored Mock Trial competition for high school students. The DeKalb regional competition is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 12, at the DeKalb County Courthouse. Thanks so much to those who have already volunteered for this Mock Trial program, but I still need more than 20 volunteers! We need evaluators and judges for the three rounds of competition, at 9 a.m., 1 p.m., and the 4 p.m. finals. Please let me know if you are available to evaluate or judge one or more rounds (each lasts two-three hours and you will be required to arrive 30 minutes before your round). Include the following in your response email:
1. Title/name
2. Employer
3. Mailing address (where materials will be sent)
4. Email address
5. Cell and office phone numbers
6. Round(s) you wish to evaluate or judge
7. Potential conflict with competing schools (example: Southwest DeKalb, 1990 graduate)

Please volunteer for as many rounds as your schedule permits. As a judge, you are the presiding judge over a round or two. I try to have experienced mock trial participants and/or actual judges to fill these slots. As an evaluator, you watch the trial and rate the teams on different areas of the trial preparation and presentation. Those evaluations are then used to determine which team goes on to state finals. Participating schools are Chamblee, Decatur, Dunwoody, Lakeside, Lakeside (Evans), Mohammed WD, Paideia, Redan, Southwest DeKalb and The Walker School. I need 30 evaluators and 10 judges for each of the first two rounds, and six evaluators and two judges for the championship round. Please consider volunteering your time. It is a great event and gives high school students an opportunity to compete in an educational environment and gain confidence in their public speaking.
