DeKalb Bar Association Family Law Section CLE a Huge Success

By Kyla Lines, Family Law Section Chair

On Sept. 10, the Family Law Section presented its inaugural seminar, “Not Your Everyday Custody Case: Advanced Issues Facing Custody Litigators and Guardians ad Litem.” The seminar was held at the State Bar of Georgia, and it was, by all accounts, a resounding success. During the eight hour seminar, the attendees heard about the impact of divorce on children from multiple mental health professionals, including Dr. Roy Sanders of Decatur Family Psychiatry, Dr. Kim Oppenheimer of Child Custody Solutions, LLC, and Dr. Allison Hill of Peachtree Psychological Associates. They also heard from seasoned family law practitioners and guardians ad litem about how (and perhaps more importantly, how not) to litigate complex custody cases. Finally, a panel of judges from DeKalb and Fulton counties answered questions about their views on various issues that arise in custody cases.

The section extends its thanks to all of those who participated in making the seminar a success, especially its facilitators, M. Debra Gold, Esq., Alice W. Limehouse, Esq., and Kim Oppenheimer, Ph.D. If you missed this year’s seminar, keep an eye out for the second annual seminar coming up in September, 2016!
