Thousands of people participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at Atlantic Station this past Mother’s Day, helping to raise money and increase awareness in the fight against breast cancer. Among them were members of the Atlanta Legal Aid Society and the Atlanta Bar Association’s Women in the Profession section (WIP). The two legal groups are partnered in the Breast Cancer Legal Project, a program providing pro bono legal services to low-income cancer patients through Grady Health System and DeKalb Medical Center.

“Showing support for the Breast Cancer Legal Project and for the generous grant that the Susan G. Komen Atlanta affiliate provides to us each year means so much to us at Atlanta Legal Aid,” said 5K team captain and Atlanta Legal Aid staff attorney Beth Stephens.

The Atlanta Legal Aid and WIP 5K team raised close to $1,500 in donations. That money will help fund their legal initiative as well as other breast health programs across the metro Atlanta area. For more information, visit atlantalegalaid.org or WIP’s page on atlantabar.org.

Since its inception in 1982, Komen for the Cure has invested millions of dollars in breast cancer education, support, and treatment. For more about the Susan G. Komen Atlanta Race for the Cure, visit race.komenatlanta.org.
