A Letter from the DBA President

crumrineby Rebecca Crumrine
President, DeKalb Bar Association

As a DeKalb County resident for more than 12 years who believes in giving back to the community, it is my honor to serve as the 2013-2014 president of the DeKalb Bar Association. I look forward to programs and events throughout the year that provide opportunities for members to give back to the community: projects like the DeKalb Bar Challenge in conjunction with the DeKalb office of Atlanta Legal Aid. The 2013 Atlanta Legal Aid fundraiser, Run for Justice, will be held on Nov. 9 in Decatur’s Oakhurst Village. Any DBA team that registers five or more runners (phantom or actual runners) will be eligible for a prize drawing valued at $250. This is a great way to help DeKalb’s Atlanta Legal Aid office, get to know your fellow DBA members and sponsor some healthy competition!

One of the privileges of membership in the DeKalb Bar Association is the power of the connections you will make: connections that help you in your practice, in your personal growth, and connections that enhance the image of the profession as a whole in our community.

A great place to start is attendance at the luncheons. The 2013-2014 Board is dedicated to increasing membership, and attendance at the luncheons. I encourage each member to solicit at least one other person to come to the September luncheon. We kick off the year at the Sept. 19 luncheon with Paula Frederick, Esq., general counsel of the State Bar of Georgia. Make your reservation now!

I want to ensure that all members of the DeKalb Bar Association feel connected and empowered by our bar and our services. I encourage you to submit articles and news to the newsletter so our community is aware of the work you are doing. Be active! Attend the luncheons, DBA events, and events of our DeKalb partners such as the DeKalb Bar Foundation’s upcoming Great Whiskey Debate on Oct. 8.

I look forward to a successful year working with you in our community and to seeing you Sept. 19 at the luncheon!

Sincerely,
Becca Crumrine
